Department of Justice (DOJ) announced that the California State Attorney General’s Office (SASVO) and the Los Angeles County District Attorney’s Office (LOSA) violated federal and state law regarding the importation of and use of prescription drugs, including Viagra, Xanax, and Xanax Plus, from California, Mexico, Puerto Rico, and the United States. The violation occurred while the FDA approved a prescription for the drug.
The violation, while technically illegal in the U. S., is an offense. SASVO, the Los Angeles County district attorney’s office and the state attorney’s office jointly announced that the violation constituted a violation of California’s federal law, the state of California, or Puerto Rico. It is estimated that approximately 1,500 drug users of the prescription drugs in California currently use it.
“SASVO and the Los Angeles County District Attorney’s Office are aware of this situation and will not tolerate any illegal importation of prescription drugs,” said John V. DePuyer, associate attorney general for the department of the attorney general, as follows:
“To the extent that SASVO and the Los Angeles County District Attorney’s Office have improperly imported prescription drugs, we encourage them to seek this investigation and pursue a violation of federal law. The pharmacists will determine whether treatment is appropriate for the patient and give advice on erectile dysfunction, usage of the medicine and potential side effects. They will advise men to consult with their doctor no less than six months after buying Viagra so that any potential underlying conditions such as diabetes, high blood pressure, or heart disease can be investigated.
A Boots spokesperson said that the man affected by erectile dysfunction should buy the drug themselves wherever practically possible.
Men with severe heart problems, those at high risk of heart problems, liver failure, kidney failure, strokes or those taking certain other medicines, will still need to be prescribed the drug under the supervision of a doctor.
A four-pack of the tablets will cost £19.99 and an eight-pack £34.99.
Men who buy it will be advised that they can take a 50 mg tablet an hour before having sex, but should not use more than one pill a day.
